Seafman C.A. obtains Environmental Recognition "Punto Verde" in Ecuador
The Ecuador presented Seafman with the "Punto Verde" award at a special ceremony in Manta on September 18, 2012.
Seafman C.A. earned the prestigious award through implementation of improved production processes which have resulted in substantial reductions in processing residues and usage in water, energy, and fuel. Seafman has become the first Ecuadorian company to achieve the simultaneous approval of four “Puntos Verdes”. As such, Ecuador’s Environmental Office has declared Seafman to be eco-efficient.
This recognition was given as part of the clean production project Energy and Fuel Optimization. The ceremony took place at the Howard Johnson Hotel and some of the special guests included major Jaime Estrada Bonilla, Mariano Zambrano Segovia, prefect, and Peter Trutanich, Senior Vice President for Tri Marine for Latin America.
Dr. Victoria Serrano, General Manager for Seafman C.A., addressed the audience stating, “The established objective was not to comply with laws or regulations, but to achieve something far more significant: continuous process improvement.”
“While it is important to sensitize and educate employees and suppliers regarding waste and the usage of water and energy, it is also an opportunity to extend these good practices into our community so that everyone is aware that we all need to care of our environment, and the quality of life of workers and the community.”
